Aster and Goldenrod (Symphyotrichum spp., Solidago spp.) in Fall.

Observation 01

Aster and Goldenrod

Symphyotrichum spp., Solidago spp.

Blooming side by side in late summer and fall, asters and goldenrods are among the most important late season sources of nectar for pollinators in North America.

At a time when most plants are entering dormancy, asters and goldenrods sustain bees, butterflies, moths, and other insects. Their contrasting yellow and purple flowers are especially visible to bees, whose vision is highly attuned to blue, violet, and yellow.

Aster and goldenrod remind us that success is not created by dominance, but by community.
